Want to screen the back yard from the neighbors, block the road from a lake house deck, or close in a pool? Tell us the length you need and whether you lean toward wood or vinyl.
Wood or vinyl
- Wood privacy: the lower-cost option with a warm look; plan on stain or sealer every few years.
- Vinyl privacy: a bigger upfront cost, but it will not rot or need paint in Virginia’s humid summers and freeze-thaw winters.
Privacy on a slope
On a hillside, privacy panels are usually stepped so each section stays level. Gaps under the steps can be filled with a rot board or by grading, so pets cannot slip underneath.
Height limits and pool barrier rules depend on city, county and HOA or lake community rules. Check them before choosing a height.
